In a vibrant celebration of diversity and community leadership, the “Youth Leadership Summit” hosted by the Asian American Leadership Council (AALC), took place on the evening of May 26, 2024. Held at the Chinese Community Center in Houston, the event brought together leaders, volunteers, and community members for an inspiring evening of speeches, awards, and cultural performances. The event aimed to recognize youth within the AALC community contribution to change in society.
Aglaia Hong
Aglaia Hong and Daniel Pan served as masters of ceremonies. The evening opened with a rendition of the National Anthem by Alyssa Jiang, setting a patriotic tone for the proceedings. Ling Luo, Chairman of AALC, delivered an opening speech, the keynote address, emphasizing the significance of unity and leadership within the Asian American community. Following this, a series of guest speakers took the stage, each contributing their unique perspectives on youth involvement within our community and leadership.

Ruei Tuo, representing the Chinese Community Center, discussed the importance of voting and urged the Chinese community to increase voter turnout to ensure their voices are heard. Taral Patel, former County Chief of Staff, highlighted internship opportunities available through his campaign, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in politics and community service. Edna Griggs, the president of Acres of Angels, gave an inspiring speech as well and Dexter McCoy, a Fort Bend County Commissioner, also spoke about the significance of community service and leadership, inspiring attendees to contribute actively to their communities. Several representatives from youth founded organizations and non profit organizations introduced their organizations.
Ling luo and Assistant to Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee,Yuroba Harris
Following the speeches, the award ceremony commenced. The representative of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee presented the Congressional Outstanding Leadership Award to Ling Luo on behalf of the United States House of Representatives, recognizing her dedication and leadership in the community. Ling Luo then presented the Congressional Outstanding Volunteer Award to several young notable volunteers, who tirelessly dedicated themselves to community service and leadership.
The evening concluded with a vibrant array of cultural performances, highlighting the rich diversity and exceptional talent within the community. The program featured an eclectic mix of artistic expressions, including solo singing, traditional cultural dances, saxophone quintets, orchestral music, piano recitals, and captivating displays of Shaolin Kungfu. These performances were a testament to the power of community and the importance of fostering leadership and cultural appreciation among young people. Through the harmonious blend of art and service, the event exemplified how organizations like AALC continue to inspire and uplift the youth in our community, nurturing their potential and celebrating their contributions. The evening not only showcased the immense talent of the participants but also underscored the significance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage, reinforcing a sense of unity and pride among all attendees.
