"Full Moon Mid-Autumn Festival" and the ”Art and Essay Vote Competition” hosted by the Chinese Community Center
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday symbolizing harvest and reunion. To celebrate and promote this cultural heritage, the Chinese Cultural Service Center hosted a "Full Moon Mid-Autumn Festival" garden party on September 14th.
The event kicked off with a lion dance performance. As the lion, representing the "auspicious beast," moved to the rhythm, it instantly energized the entire atmosphere. The garden party featured a variety of programs, including ancient music performances, children's poetry recitations, singing and dancing, and a fashion show. Additionally, there were numerous cultural exhibition and experience areas, such as tea ceremonies, kendo demonstrations, Chinese calligraphy, origami workshops, Asian food tastings, and photography booths. These activities provided participants with a unique opportunity to experience Chinese culture, creating a vibrant cross-cultural dialogue that seamlessly blended the ancient and the modern.
The center's staff also guided community children in making mooncakes, allowing them to appreciate the charm of Chinese traditions through hands-on cultural learning, friendly knowledge competitions, and food tastings. Participants also benefited from free physical examinations and blood tests offered at the venue.
With the upcoming presidential election in November, the event aimed to encourage community members to vote and strengthen the unity of the Chinese community. The highlight of the fair was a Youth Art Competition, which served as a prelude to the main festivities. This competition received strong community support, with sponsorship from multiple businesses and the involvement of Alief ISD. Divided into five age groups, the competition invited talented young artists to submit their works online in the forms of both painting and writing. The results were announced on-site, and awards were presented to the winning young artists.
